Adam Ferency
He was briefly seen in Zdjęcia próbne/Screen Tests by Agnieszka Holland, Paweł Kędzierski and Jerzy Domaradzki, and in Holland’s TV film Niedzielne dzieci/Sunday Children. Holland also cast him in a minor role in Aktorzy provincionalni/Provincial Actors, and in her Gorączka/Fever he played a major role – the naive and idealistic socialist. The iconic actor of the cinema of moral anxiety, Ferency starred in the most important films of this genre: Przypadek/Blind Chance by Krzysztof Kieslowski, Dziecinne pytania/Childlish Questions and Matka Królów/Mother of Kings by Janusz Zaorski, and Przesłuchanie/Interrogation by Ryszard Bugajski. He was also cast in films made during and after the martial law period, such as Odwet/Revenge by Tomasz Zygadło, Nadzór/Custody by Wiesław Saniewski, or Kieslowski's Bez końca/No End.
Due to his appearance – broad face, imposing figure – he is most often cast in the role of a simple person, a worker, but also as the naive, noble intellectual. On the other hand, he often plays scoundrels (such as the title character in the feature debut of Tomasz Wiśniewski), apparatchiks, communist security service officers, who are, however, sometimes endowed with a sense of conscience or decency (Przesłuchanie/Interrogation, Pułkownik Kwiatkowski/Colonel Kwiatkowski). He is great in the roles of vague, mysterious characters, like in Pornografia/Pornography by Jan Jakub Kolski.
He won the best actor award at the Gdynia Film Festival for his role in Kanalia [The Scoundrel]; he was also twice nominated for the Polish Film Award “Eagle” for best supporting actor – in Kolski's Jasminum and 1920. Bitwa warszawska/1920.The Battle of Warsaw by Jerzy Hoffman.
Born on October 5, 1951 in Warsaw, a graduate of the Warsaw Theatre Academy (1976).
As a theatre actor, he has been associated with numerous stages in Warsaw, also as a director. He has played over a hundred roles in TV theatre and several dozen as a voice actor. He often provides voice-overs in documentaries.
