Bożena Dykiel
She appeared for a moment in the crowd of guests in Wajda’s Wesele/The Wedding, enthusiastically biting on a sausage. Later, in Awans/Promotion she played a main character, but she dazzled in Ziemia obiecana/The Promised Land where she painted her Mada Mueller on the verge of exaggeration but never crossing into it.
Miećka Anioł from the TV series Alternatywy 4 /4, Alternative Street, Solidarity activist from Suwałki in Chęciński’s Rozmowy kontrolowane/Call Controlled, Walenciak the caretaker’s wife from Czterdziestolatek/Turning Forty, and of course, Halina from Dom/House – these are the most popular characters she has created, recognised by all on both the small and the big screen.
She often plays peasants and simple women – in their simplicity sometimes full of dignity, or maybe just lacking imagination (like in Bugajski’s Przesłuchanie/Interrogation); sometimes dangerous like the informer in Wielki tydzień /Holy Week; and sometimes common like Koterski’s terrible neighbours.
A master of characteristic roles, in one short scene she can create a whole person, about whom – it seems – we know all there is to know.
