Jadwiga Barańska

Even though she only played a few roles, it would be difficult to imagine the great Polish actresses without her in their midst. Barbara Niechcic from Maria Dąbrowska’s epic saga will forever have Jadwiga Barańska’s face. A fascinating character, irritating and moving at the same time, she was perfectly portrayed by her.
Before that, she fascinated audiences as the haughty countess Cosel, arousing desire in all men around her, in both the TV series and its cinema version.
Cast mostly by her husband, Jerzy Antczak, she shared the fate of an emigrant with him. After many years she returned to the film industry – and to Poland – as the scriptwriter for Dama kameliowa [‘The lady of the Camellias’] directed by her husband.
We also saw her in a supporting role as Chopin’s mother.
