One of the most remarkable people of the Polish theatre and screen; an actress in Jerzy Grotowski’s theatre and Krzysztof Zanussi’s films.
Her debut on the big screen was in Zanussi’s Życie rodzinne/Family Life, where she played Bella – the main character’s extravagant sister, who watches the progressive degeneration of her own family with ironic distance.
The neurotic heroine of Za ścianą/Behind the Wall was the first in a series of roles – main or supporting – where she played educated, emotionally torn women, who couldn’t find their place in a world they didn’t agree with because of their moral sensitivity. Bitter Rachela in Wajda’s Wesele/The Wedding, a wise ‘Girl of Wilko’, she played for Konwicki and Żebrowski.
In Rafał Wieczyński’s film Popiełuszko. Wolność jest w nas [‘Popiełuszko. Freedom is Within Us’] she played herself – an actress involved in the political opposition.
