Teresa Marczewska

Her debut role was (still as Teresa Kamińska) for Henryk Kluba in Słońce wschodzi raz na dzień/The Sun Rises Once a Day, which was locked away by the censorship office for years. Hans Kloss fans remembered her expressive face from the dramatic role of Simone in the episode Akcja: „Liść dębu” [‘Mission: Oak Tree’ also shown at the cinemas].
Teresa Marczewska is mainly, however, an actress in her husband Wojciech’s films: the main character’s mother dying from tuberculosis in Zmory/Nightmares based on a novel by Zegadłowicz; fanatical scout leader in Dreszcze/Shivers, who seduces adolescent Tomek politically as well as erotically; and also Małgorzata, trying to save a censor’s life in Ucieczka z kina Wolność/Escape from the “Liberty” Cinema. In all these films she created remarkable and well-remembered roles.
It’s also impossible to forget her Elżbieta in Kieślowski’s Dekalog, osiem/The Decalogue Eight: Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness discussing with an ethics professor an event from years before which influenced both their lives.
