Director, writer, producer. He was born on September 28, 1956 in Zakopane. A graduate of the Film School in Łódź (1980). His debut was Kartka z podróży/Postcard from a Journey (1983), a psychological drama set in the Jewish ghetto during World War Two and produced by the Karol Irzykowski film studio; it won Bronze Lions at the Polish Film Festival in Gdańsk. His next film was Cudowne dziecko/The Young Magician (1986), an award-winning film for young audiences, winner of many children and youth film festivals. It was in this film that the director’s talent for working with children was discovered, later confirmed in Lazarus (1993, Grand Prix in Antwerp) and Pierwszy milion/The First Million (2000, a series of fiction).

He returned to the Jewish theme in a TV drama Nadludzka medycyna/Superhuman Medicine (1988). In 1990, he directed another TV theatre drama, Dwoje na huśtawce/Two for the Seesaw. In the 1990s, he started working as a film producer. In 2002, he launched two projects: OFF-enssive of Young Cinema and Polish Family Cinema, hoping to promote up-and-coming artists. In 2007, he was appointed Director General of TRK-Ukraine TV station.
