About the film
A love story of two young people whose immaturity prevents them from saving their nascent feelings. He introduces her to his world; she stops there momentarily, before moving on. A subtle, sentimental and warm portrayal of existential youth in the 1950s.
Jacek is a director of a student theatre in Gdańsk. He meets Margueritte, the daughter of a foreign consul. He invites her to a tennis game and they begin to meet regularly. Margueritte visits the theatre. Jacek, clearly in love, neglects his duties and spends his days with her. She, on the other hand, treats their relationship as nothing more than a fling. She is unable to fall in love.
Visiting the church, they act out a wedding scene, and then the girl admits that she does not intend to marry. She is afraid that she might lose her charm in the relationship. She does not want Jacek to treat her like a child. She has already experienced a lot in her life. Constantly changing her place of residence, she met many people. She tells Jacek that she will soon leave Gdańsk. When he persuades her to stay with him forever, she chooses instead the nomadic lifestyle. One day Jacek comes to the consulate and learns that Margueritte has left. He returns to the theatre and to his friends.
The film features performances of the Bim-Bom and Co To theatres.
