About the film

A patriotic melodrama with a rich historical and moral backdrop.

The First World War. At Krakow train station, Captain Łazowski bids farewell to his wife Wanda and his beloved daughter, Nelly, and goes off to the front. Soon after, he is captured and the family have no news about him. Wanda begins to doubt that he will ever be saved, but Nelly still has optimistic thoughts. Meanwhile, Łazowski, through the love of a Russian girl, escapes from a Siberian village. He goes to the Crimea to Duchess Turchanowa. Using the documents of a Russian who committed suicide out of desperation for his lost Russia, Łazowski finds work in a munitions factory under a new name. Compromised by Commissioner Simonow, he escapes to Poland and is killed when a stray bullet hits him at the border.
