Ewa Dałkowska

One of the favourite actresses of cinema of moral anxiety; a graduate of Warsaw University in Polish studies and the University of the Performing Arts, she was never one for romantic roles. She was lucky when it came to dramatic roles – ones that were ambiguous, mysterious, passion driven, sometimes demonic. She could be complicated or straightforward.
In one of her first larger roles – Olesia Chrobotówna in Noce i dnie/Nights and Days – she painted a character so vivid that her part stayed in people’s minds for years. She showed the extent of her talent in Majewski’s Sprawa Gorgonowej/The Gorgon Case and Wajda’s Bez znieczulenia/Rough Treatment, where she played the hero’s wife. She dazzled (winning an award in Gdynia) as the main character in Andrzej Barański’s Kobieta z prowincji/A Woman from the Provinces, humbly receiving anything life brought.
Among nearly 40 films she played in were works by masters and debutants, and in all of them she created interesting characters.
