Joanna Szczepkowska
The authoress of the famous announcement of the fall of communism in Poland, she is not only an actress but also a director, a writer and a columnist. Directors tend to give her supporting roles but Szczepkowska gives them such depth and strength of expression that her roles tend to seem more interesting than the main characters. This happened in her awarded debut role in Batory’s Con amore, where much more interesting than the sentimental heroine, was ‘the other girl’ – the one in love but not loved back. It’s also very difficult to forget her dramatic roles of Marta, the wife of Klemens, from Matka Królów/The Mother of Kings, Janka from Jezioro Bodeńskie/Sons and Comrades and Flora from Dwa księżyce/Two Moons.
In 2010 she became the first chairwoman of ZASP (Polish Artists Association).
